Dance team is a fun and competitive group of 17 girls who compete at competitions, accompany the marching band at select events and perform at school assemblies and performing arts events.

The team, made up of three freshmen, two sophomores, five juniors, and seven seniors (three being captains), is a very tight-knit community who win and lose together.

Maddie Greekas, a four year Dance Team member and first year captain, talked about how the team manages success during competitions and in general throughout the year.

“Whether it’s simply making eye contact or even whispering something to one another,” Greekas said. “We always have some means of communication going on at all times so everyone can succeed to the best of their ability.”

Greekas and the other two captains find it important to make the underclassmen feel welcome and are able to perform in a safe space.

“The most important thing to me is making sure everyone feels like they have a comfortable, safe place because dance is about having fun and being who you are,” Greekas said. “Being a strong team is also an important factor, but it means nothing if no one’s heart is truly in it.”

The team will perform at their winter showcase on Dec. 13. The new team members will be able to experience the excitement of performing their long-awaited routines: contemporary, hip-hop, lyrical and many more styles of dance.

The team is constantly preparing and looking forward to competition season, including freshman Alexandra Borsi.

“I’m looking forward to learning more routines as well as lots of new techniques,” Borsi said.

Working as a team is very important to the group and team-bonding is the key to their success. Whether it be their team sleepovers, practices or assembly performances, the team finds it very important to stay connected and grow together.

“I think the team is successful because of the hard work,” Borsi said. “Everyone participates and helps each other when they need help.”
