Why would you snowboard when you could ski? There are so many limitations to snowboarding, you can’t easily go into the trees and it is harder to control.
When you ski, it feels like you can fly and do anything. When you’re snowboarding, however, you find yourself stuck in a tree well with your skier friend trying to pull you out as you scream and cry because it is so embarrassing to be in that situation.
Snowboarders are always falling and cutting everybody off; they always mess up the slopes and speed and hit you. Last year, I was at Stevens Pass (a well-known skiing resort in Washington) and I was coming up on a jump. When I was in the air, a snowboarder hit me because he was going so fast. I ended up fine but he broke his leg.
On another note, skiing has been here much longer than snowboards and is known to be much more practical for the mountains.
Skiing was invented long before snowboarding by the indigenous people of Scandinavia in 8000-7000 BCE, according to “The Origin of Skiing,” according to Britannica. They were called the Sami tribe and had to adapt to the eight months of snow where they lived.
From there, many countries adopted this practical way of travel for the mountains. The skiing we know today is much different than the skiing back then. Some things that were different are, there were no lifts to bring people up to the top of mountains and not the recent advancement in technology all around the world.
Many ski areas in Utah have banned snowboarders from going onto the many mountains because of their reputation of being reckless and ruining the slopes.
Snowboarders destroy powder with their board on the slopes because of how big they are. They also tend to use less technique than skiers. But snowboarders who use the amount of technique needed to snowboard well are much better than those who just goof around.
Snowboarding is also more dangerous, Physical Therapy of South Mountain wrote an article say that snowboarders have a 50% higher risk than skiers to break bones. It can also break somebody else’s bones because snowboards take longer to fully stop than skiers.
Most snowboarders have an aura that urges them to show off and end up doing stupid things, annoying things that bothers everybody but themselves. This ends up either hurting someone else or hurting themselves.
I think that snowboarders think that they are the coolest people in the world and can take on any skier that says the contrary. I want them to say that when they are in a tree well and can’t get out.
Snowboarders are also a huge hazard because they sometimes sit down in the middle of a slope and think that they are alone in the world and are definitely not cause potential death to everyone around them.
In general, snowboarders are a hazard because they think that nothing bad will happen to them and that they will live forever. I do not think that every snowboarder is like this but they have shown many of the things that I’ve said.
Some skiers are even more dangerous than average snowboarders, but it is less common. You see more snowboarders being dragged by a ski instructor than skiers being dragged by a snowboarder.
I do think that snowboarding should be a sport, but the people who do it should be more responsible and ensure safety for everybody around them. I also think that, in general, skiing is more fun than snowboarding ever will be.
