Taylor Swift’s increasing interaction with the NFL and the Kansas City Chiefs has been a talking point for many. And not just among sports fans, but in the community as a whole.
When Taylor Swift showed up at the Super Bowl, having to travel directly from a performance in Japan and take a 13-hour direct flight just to make it to the game, many sports fans were rooting against the Chiefs. This wasn’t just because the Chiefs won last year, but also because Taylor Swift was supporting them.
The argument that the NFL shows Taylor Swift too often in their Broadcast is unreasonable; during the Super Bowl, they in fact only showed Taylor Swift for a total of 53 seconds and only about a dozen times.
The many opinions and drama around this topic are unnecessary because in the end, Taylor Swift is just a person going to the football game to watch her boyfriend play.
For context, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 25-22 in the second ever overtime in Super Bowl history after Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes passed the ball to Wide Receiver Mecole Harman in the end zone for the game-winning touchdown. This was the third career Super Bowl victory for star Tight End Travis Kelce in the past five years.
The Chiefs turned around a questionable regular season which saw them win just 11 games despite having one of the easiest divisions in the NFL. This lack of regular season success was fueled by a lack of success at the receiver position which included Travis Kelce who had his worst regular season in recent memory.
However, Kelce, Mahomes and the Chiefs had a great postseason run and ended up winning the Super Bowl on the evening of Sunday February 11th.
The superstition surrounding whether the Chiefs play better when Taylor Swift is in attendance is really not true in the slightest and the reason the Chiefs keep winning is that they are a really good team led by an extremely good quarterback. Patrick Mahomes has made six straight AFC Championships in his first six seasons as a starter and already has won three super bowls and two MVP awards. Expect to see the Chiefs to have more success in the years to come as they have one of the best players the NFL has ever seen.
I expect to see Taylor Swift at more Chiefs games in the future in the 2024-2025 season as long as she remains in a relationship with Chiefs superstar Tight End Travis Kelce. There is no guarantee that Kelce, who is currently 34 years old, won’t retire sometime soon. This may or may not cause Swift to stop watching the games.
