As students came back from winter break, many were shocked when they first heard the bell. The majority of students did not know the reason for their installment, most saw it as unnecessary.
Young Wong, Lead Custodial Engineer, emphasized the need for an update to the bells.
“[The bells were] too old. It’s over 20 years old and it needed an update,” Wong said.
Though the installments of the bells were needed, the installation of a new bell system has led to negative reactions among students due to its unusual and disruptive sound.
“This new bell is completely trash,” junior Caleb Bolan said. “Everyone has been hearing the same bell since middle school and now they decide to change it? It literally came out of nowhere.”
The new bell system has led to widespread distaste among students. The bell may not sound pleasant to the ear but some believe in a way, it does grab your attention.
“It doesn’t sound loud, it is a quiet sound but it is super high pitched, or low pitched I can’t tell,” senior Ben Sanchez said. “It really makes me mad when I hear it, and then I remember it’s the bell, and then I start to listen to see if there is an announcement.”
Much of the attention grabbing may be due to the new bell’s unfamiliarity. As students get used to the sound, our opinions might change.
