The team finished their regular season with the best record the school has seen in 25 years

The boys baseball team made one clear goal in the beginning of the season: make it to state. Although metros may have sounded out of reach, the team finished their regular season with a 17-3 record
Despite the team losing ten seniors, senior captain Jay Dunbar expressed how the underclassmen have been a key addition to the team’s success and the loss of teammates didn’t impact the players focus.
“A lot of the younger guys have really stepped up and definitely won us some games,” Dunbar said. “All returning seniors have stayed true to themselves.”
Alongside Dunbar is senior captain and catcher, Peter Furia. The two worked together to ensure that practices and games ran smoothly.
“We try to keep the team together as one unit and make sure no one really strays too far off,” Furia said. “If that happens, that can ruin the whole team chemistry.”
Furia had the same expectations as Dunbar concerning how well the team would do this season and the impact of the lower classmen players.
“I had high hopes for this team,” Furia said. “I knew that the younger guys were really going to step up and play well.”
Junior pitcher, Avery McGinnis, believes that the team’s even distribution of skill is the reason why their regular season ended so well.
“There’s a lot of good people in a lot of different places,” McGinnis said. “This year we’re more consistent all over.”
Many players, including sophomore Ryan Blokker, explained how well the team bonded this season.
“Everyone gets along pretty well so that allows us to play better as a team,” Blokker said.
Blokker also was awarded 2nd team All-Metro, leading the team with 18 RBIs.
Additionally, for the second year in a row senior Ethan Doshi earned 1st team All-Metro honors and lead the team with 20 run.

Junior outfielder and pitcher, Kelan Scanlan, knew the team was going to be good but even still, this season exceeded his expectations.
“We have a lot of grit on this team and we have a lot of talented guys that can make a big impact,” Scanlan said. “It’s really fun to watch our guys go out and just compete everyday. ”
