Girls basketball beats Bonney Lake 46-37

The Ballard starters check into the start of the game.

The girls basketball team defeated the Bonney Lake Panthers by a score of 46-37 on Tuesday night in their home opener.

They jumped out to to an early lead, holding the Panthers to only six points in the first quarter.

“Our defense was playing great,” junior Melina Monlux said. “Our ‘Buzz’ defense is designed to clog the passing lanes and make it hard on the opposing guards.” Ballard forced Bonney Lake to settle with outside jump shots and couldn’t convert.

But the third quarter was all Bonney Lake. They locked down the Beaver offense and penetrated their defense, outscoring them by 13 points. “We came into the second half missing our energy,” Monlux said. “But we picked it back up in the fourth because we knew we could beat them.”

“[Senior] Stella Sohl had a big second half and helped us dominate the fourth quarter,” Monlux said. Sohl finished with 12 points and three rebounds.

Their next game will be this Wednesday  at Seattle Prep.
