The swim team proved their strength in Metro preliminaries Oct. 30 and 31. Many dropped their previous times, as they took seventh place out of the 16 competing teams, with fifth place overall in the 400 meter free relay.
Most people added time to their totals at Friday’s meet. Junior Marguerite Devine Mraz, from Seattle Academy of Arts and Science, made state in the 500 meter free.
The team regrouped Saturday and continued to improve, as Mraz dropped one second in the 200 meter free and dropped two seconds in the 500 meter free, claiming second place overall in the category.
Senior captain Claire Comiskey also improved previous times, dropping two seconds from preliminaries in the 100 meter fly. “I hope to drop my time more next week,” Comiskey said. “Districts is usually a time when everyone is really pumped up and swimming well.”
The team hopes for Mraz to make state in the 200 meter free. They will advance to District preliminaries next Friday, Nov. 6. If they are in the top 12 of their event, will continue on to district finals on Saturday, Nov. 7.
