SBAC to be administered to both juniors and sophomores

Ellery Llyod, Staff Reporter
Originally published January 13, 2015

The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium will be administered this spring. The same version of the test will be given to both sophomores and juniors.

Both grades will take what is called a computer adaptive test, much like the MAP test some students may remember taking a few years ago. The SBAC will be a graduation requirement for sophomores.

Juniors can work towards achieving a score called “college and career ready.” These scores are called cut scores. For sophomores meeting test requirements for graduation, they will be lower than the “college and ready scores for juniors. At this point no one knows what those cut scores will be but the test scores will be based on scores received by students who took pilot tests.
